I find I spend much of my time thinking. My mind is always busy and will not turn off. I find I get my best ideas when I am lying in bed trying to sleep. This is why I now keep a notebook by my bed because of course these ideas always leave my mind by the time I wake. While I may spend much of my time lying around I am not being lazy as many people would think. I am busy, I am productive, I am thinking.

I have had several pets during my childhood. A fish, a cat, a dog, a rabbit, a bird. I always liked having something to take care of and they were always so cuddly. Well except for the fish, the fish was just wet and slimy. Now as much as I enjoyed having those pets they were never quite what I wanted. If I had a choice and my parents approval I would have liked a tiger. Or a panda. Hey I would have even settled for an elephant. But noooo. My parents would have never allowed that, for several reasons I am sure. Well I am all grown up now and guess what? I am getting a tiger. Ok maybe not actually getting a tiger…..more like adopting…from afar.
The World Wildlife Fund will allow adoptions of many different kinds of animals. There are several choices for adoption kits and the costs go towards efforts to protect wild animals and their habitats. Have you ever woken up one morning and thought I want to eat cookies for breakfast? Sometimes I just cannot eat breakfast food for breakfast. I want something different. I am not going to lie, on occasions I have considered having dessert for breakfast. However, there was always that little voice in my head saying that is not a healthy breakfast, it’s full of sugary junk. Well now whenever I want cookies for breakfast and that voice in my head decides to give its unwanted opinion I just laugh as I have discovered a recipe for cookies that is delicious and healthy. Breakfast Cookies! I cannot live without them. I have a constant supply in my freezer which is hard to keep up as a batch of cookies does not last long in my house. Of course the best thing about these is that Cookie Monster would approve.
-3 mashed bananas
-1/3 cup apple sauce
-2 cups uncooked oats
-1 tsp vanilla
-2 Tbsp cinnamon
-1 Tbsp maple syrup
-1/2 cup cacao nibs
1. Mix all ingredients together.
2. Spoon the dough by teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet.
3. Bake @350* for 15 minutes. Cool and Serve
4. Freeze leftovers ( no preservatives therefore cookies will go bad after a couple days if left out of freezer)
Can also add nuts, seeds, diced apple, craisons, goji berries, whatever else you think of 🙂
We all hold on to things we shouldn’t, I know I do it all the time. Sometimes we just need a little reminder to let it go because in the end it doesn’t matter, it is not important enough to hold onto it. Just let it go and remember no matter what anyone told you, it is ok to colour outside of the lines. In fact I encourage it.
Have you ever wondered what the universe is trying to tell you? Well I recently discovered an interesting little tidbit of information. When you see static on the tv, approximately 1% of it is left over radiation from the Big Bang. Basically you are seeing the left over effects of the Universe being created. The same goes for the radio. Whenever you hear static on the radio, part of what you are hearing is the universe. So if you are ever trying to figure out what the universe is trying to tell you maybe turn on your radio, find some static, listen carefully and see if it makes things clearer for you!
My name is Nicole and I am an introvert. Whew, that felt good to get off my chest. I’m quiet, shy and don’t like large gatherings of people. People freak me out. They always want to talk, I don’t like to talk because I never know what to say. It’s awful because it takes a lot of work and me being me usually just ends up standing their awkwardly, it’s exhausting. Well for those of you who know an introvert or happen to come across one in the future, and I am sure you will because we are everywhere, here is a quick little guide on how to deal with us.
Have you filled a bucket today? Many of you may be asking what bucket? Well I am talking about the invisible bucket that represents your mental and emotional health, it holds all of your good thoughts and feelings. When your bucket is full you feel happy and positive. When your bucket is empty you feel sad and experience negatIve thoughts. You fill a bucket by sending positive thoughts and actions out to other people and you empty a bucket by sending negative thoughts and actions towards other people.
My first experience with bucket filling came in the form of a book. Have You Filled A Bucket Today?, A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids is written by Carol McCloud. I brought it into my classroom to share with my students and it has become a great motivational tool for positive and kind behaviour in our classroom. I love this book and the children in my classroom love this book. Carol McCloud has since written several other books and has a website with other resources to expand on her books.
I created an actual bucket for our classroom with hearts and stars that represent positive thoughts and actions. When I see a child filling someone’s bucket they get to also fill our classroom bucket. The same applies if I see negative thoughts or actions they have to empty our bucket. The children love it and at such a young age the bucket has helped them to better understand the concepts within the book.
The Bucket filling series is a great way to teach children about kindness and positive thinking. In my experience I have found the children really respond to it, they enjoy being able to fill a bucket. Whether you are a teacher or a parent this book is a must have!
